I can hardly believe it, that after years of anticipation, America’s 250th anniversary is finally here!
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by the people, places, and events that shaped our nation’s story.
Of course, as a historical novelist, I’ve spent countless hours researching the past. And as a travel writer, I’ve had the privilege of walking the same streets, visiting the same homes, and standing on the very ground where history was made.
Every trip reminds me that our history isn’t just something we read about—it’s something we can experience.

That makes this year especially meaningful. I hope you’ve followed along on my travel blog Past Lane Travels, where I’ve written about hidden gems and fascinating historical destinations, including many related to our country’s founding.
I’ve also written a book called The Patriot’s Journey, that lists 250 sites to visit for America 250. Many of them are true hidden gems that I hope will inspire you to explore.
If you’re a history buff, this is definitely your year. But if your simply looking for memorable places to visit with your family, there’s never been a better time to rediscover America’s back roads than during America 250.

In the past few weeks I’ve visited the Sail250 Tall Ships and Air Show in Baltimore, Md., and the Great America State Fair in Washington, D.C. There are events all over the country, so I hope you find one near you.
Wishing you all a wonderful and safe Independence Day. Celebrate freedom!
Happy America 250!
